Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience. We offer a benefits package with healthcare, vacation and personal days, national holidays, professional development, and more. This role requires full status to work in the US and willingness to provide employment verification as required.

Responsibilities:
Conscious Kitchen, a program of Turning Green, is working with Northern California school districts such as West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) and local, organic producers on Farm-to-School programs. This focused effort supports school districts in transforming its school food supply chain to prioritize fresh, local, organic, seasonal and nutritious foods and expanding farm-to-school education and leadership opportunities with a cohort of Conscious Kitchen Ambassadors across multiple WCCUSD schools. This focused effort also supports local, organic producers by enabling them to access large institutional markets. 

We seek a creative, organized, out of the box thinker to become our Education and Communications Coordinator and assist Conscious Kitchen and WCCUSD to coordinate education programming such as the Ambassador Program and spearhead communications to share the progress and updates about our work with our communities. 

Tasks Include:

Education

  • Lead the Conscious Kitchen Ambassador Program, fostering youth advocacy and education through after-school learning sessions to propel  food systems change
  • Develop engaging curriculum and teach lessons/activities related to fresh, local, organic food systems 
  • Mentor and guide interns assigned to support farm-to-school projects
  • Assist in organizing special events and guest visits 
  • Coordinate the schedules of teachers, interns, and district stakeholders for Conscious Kitchen Ambassador activities

Communications

  • Work closely with the Conscious Kitchen staff to create and implement communication strategies to promote Conscious Kitchen initiatives across social media platforms (such as Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and through blogs and storytelling.
  • Lead Conscious Kitchen communications for constituents including students, parents, schools, and other CK stakeholders online and offline and work with CK staff to create targeted materials for donors, fundraising, etc.
  • Develop and publish engaging content for the website, including blog posts, feature articles, and multimedia materials, and educational campaigns to educate and inform the world about Conscious Kitchen programming around sustainable food systems

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing special events and guest visits 
  • Oversee and administer reports for grant-awarded programming 
  • Support the Program Manager with data gathering, analysis, and reporting 

The Education and Communications Coordinator will work closely with Conscious Kitchen’s Program Manager, school district team members, and local university students to support Conscious Kitchen’s work across districts. Applicant will work at the Sausalito CK headquarters as well as various school sites in West Contra Costa and across the Bay Area. Applicant will be able to work independently, both in person and off-site.   

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in agriculture, environmental studies, food systems, nutrition, public health, or other related field 
  • 1-2 years of professional experience with educational and/or advocacy projects and/or experience in digital and written communications
  • Passion for expanding the use of fresh, local, organic meals  in school dining halls and engaging students through farm-to-school activities
  • Demonstrated experience in managing strong relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills, managing interrelated projects concurrently
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an inclusive team environment
  • Well-versed in Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite of products
  • Skills in graphic design are preferred (but not required)
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a car
  • Local residency in the Bay Area
  • Interest in building a healthy, just, resilient future for people and the planet

  • Regular full-time employees accrue five (5) days of paid vacation after six (6) months of full-time employment and continue to accrue one (1) day of paid vacation at the end of each month, with a maximum of ten (10) days of annual paid vacation. Additionally, ten (10) days of paid federal holidays. 
  • Employees are entitled to five (5) paid sick days per calendar year. Additionally, employees may take up to two (2) additional personal days, as needed.
